Abu Garcia
Abu Garcia - Carl-August Borgström founded AB Urfabriken (ABU) in 1921. He had previously worked as a foreman at Haldafabriken, but was made redundant after the First World War when Halda ran into difficulties. From the beginning, ABU produced pocket watches. Alarm clocks and telephone controllers. In 1934, his son Göte Borgström took over the company and focused on the development of taximeters.
In 1939 he developed the world's smallest taximeter. However, the Second World War dealt a heavy blow to the taxi movement and the company, which gave rise to the idea of manufacturing spinning reels for sport fishing. The first spinning reel, named Record, was introduced in 1941. Since then, the company has mainly produced sport fishing equipment.
Abu Garcia is now part of Pure Fishing, which also includes Berkley, Fenwick, Stren, Mitchell, Johnson, Spiderwire, Hardy and Greys. Penn, Spiderwire, Shakespeare, Sebile, Chub and 7Strand.
