Rio MDC Tip 18ft

RIO MDC 18ft Sink Tips (Multi Density Control) are mid-length, individually packed sink tips designed to fine-tune the depth and presentation of your salmon and sea trout setups. Built to be added to the body of a wide range of VersiTip-type fly lines and shooting heads, they give you precise control of sink rate without sacrificing casting ease or presentation quality.

Each 18 ft tip uses RIO’s triple density concept, with 6 ft of each density along the length of the tip. This creates a smooth, continuous energy transfer from the running line through to the fly, resulting in very stable loops, easy casting and excellent turnover even with heavier flies. The denser front section sinks faster where it matters – close to the fly – helping you to get down into the taking zone quickly while keeping the rest of the system under good control.

The tips feature a gradual front taper that lays out salmon and sea trout flies cleanly, giving you a balanced turnover instead of a crashy, uncontrolled delivery. This makes them ideal for both classic swing fishing and more technical presentations in varied flows and rivers across Europe.

On the rear loop, each tip has a colour coded sleeve, allowing you to quickly identify the correct tip weight and match it to your chosen body on the bank. This is particularly useful when you’re changing between different densities as light, water level and holding depths change through the day. Two sizes are available – 7/8 (130 gr) and 9/10 (150 gr) – with five different density options: Floating (single density), Float/Hover/Intermediate, Hover/Intermediate/Sink 3, Intermediate/Sink 3/Sink 5, and Sink 3/Sink 5/Sink 7. The intermediate section on the F/H/I version is clear, offering extra stealth in clear water and pressured fisheries.

The RIO MDC 18ft Sink Tips are also designed to match RIO’s Elite Scandi Body Series, with colour-coded rear loops in three sizes: #5/6 (white), #7/8 (blue), and #9+ (grey). Together with RIO’s SlickCast coating for minimal friction and the Easy ID labelling system on the loops, rigging and changing tips is quick, intuitive and tangle-free, so you can concentrate fully on covering the water efficiently and putting your fly in front of fish.
