Umpqua Fly X Caddis Mathews is a clever twist on the classic caddis dry. The trailing shuck suggests an emerging or crippled adult, which often feels like an easier meal to selective trout. On rivers where fish inspect every drift, that small hint of vulnerability can make all the difference.

Use it when caddis are emerging or egg-laying and fish are rising in broken or gentle currents. It excels on upstream dead-drifts, picking off individual trout that feed just under or in the surface film. It can also be pulled under and allowed to pop back up, imitating a struggling adult. Sizes 14 and 16 in Olive or Tan cover most European caddis hatches on clear rivers and streams.
