Rio Elite Scandi Outbound Body Hover

RIO Elite Scandi OutBound Body is an integrated Scandi style shooting head body designed for salmon and sea trout anglers who want maximum versatility from a single line system. Paired with a selection of floating and sinking tips, it lets you cover anything from low, clear summer rivers to higher, heavier flows and colder water, while maintaining precise control over depth, swing and presentation.

Being fully integrated, the shooting head runs seamlessly into RIO’s Elite Metered Shooting Line, which changes colour every 10 ft. This eliminates noisy loop‑to‑loop joins rattling through the rod rings and gives you reliable distance control and consistent casting performance between sessions. The short, efficient Scandi head is very easy to cast, loading a switch, short spey or full spey rod quickly even when back‑cast space is restricted, and is tapered to form tight, efficient loops that unroll cleanly with a wide range of tips and fly sizes.

Available in Floating and Hover versions, the Elite Scandi OutBound Body covers most two‑handed scenarios. The floating body excels in summer conditions and lower water, giving delicate presentation of small to medium flies high in the water column. The hover body sinks very slowly, cutting wind‑drift and skating, and comes into its own on cooler days or when you need to fish slightly deeper in faster or heavier flows without dropping straight into the bottom.

The system is designed as the "engine" for long tapered sink tips. It matches perfectly with RIO’s 12 ft dual density and 18 ft triple density MDC tips, as well as RIO’s Classic 10 ft and 15 ft single density sink tips. Colour‑coded front loops on the Scandi OutBound Body correspond to the loop colours on the correctly sized tips, making it easy to build a balanced outfit and ensuring smooth turnover, long flight time and effortless, controlled spey casts. Use 10 ft RIO Classic Sink Tips on switch and short spey rods up to around 13 ft, and 15 ft RIO Classic Sink Tips on 13 ft and longer spey rods.

Built on RIO’s ultra‑low stretch ConnectCore Plus, the line transmits takes instantly, improves hook‑setting and gives excellent control when playing fish. The SlickCast coating—one of the slickest and most durable fly line coatings on the market—reduces friction through the rod guides to a minimum, which means easier shooting, longer casts and greatly improved longevity, providing more fishing time before the line shows wear. A clear loading point marker and easy line identification markings help you find the ideal overhang and set‑up quickly, so you spend more time swinging flies and less time adjusting your line.
