OPST’s second generation of two-handed rods is built around Ed Ward’s long experience with sustained-anchor casting. Using a new graphite that adds backbone without feeling heavy, these short two-handers cover everything from light trout work to powerful 8wt setups. The MS versions sit between trout spey and single hand rods, giving you a very compact tool for tight rivers and technical presentations.
The mini full wells upper grip and switch-style lower grip are made from high-grade cork and combine with a new down-locking reel seat for secure, balanced reel placement. Medium/fast action and ultra-short lengths make it easy to form tight D-loops, manage anchor placement and feel what the fly is doing throughout the swing.
REC Recoil guides with ceramic inserts keep line shooting smoothly in all weather. Besides Skagit-style and other sustained-anchor casts, this series also handles overhead casting better than many traditional trout spey rods; OPST even recommends overlining by one size for overhead use (for example, a 5wt overhead line on a 4wt rod). These rods give European anglers a versatile option for fishing small to medium rivers with modern two-handed techniques.
