From the mid 60's until 1989, Henry Hoffman, from Oregon, dedicated his life to producing the best dry fly hooks in the world. His primary motivation was an overriding love of fishing. Fortunately, for both us and Henry, Henry was born at just the right time, in just the right situation. His parents had a small chicken farm in California, so Henry grew up learning the basics of breeding and selection. After a short stint in the military, Henry settled in Oregon and made a living tying flies for stores! During the 1960s, quality feathers for tying dry flies were hard to come by, and fly tyers had to live with poor quality feathers from India or China. So Henry acquired some Grizzly chickens which he cared for for his own needs, things went from strength to strength, more birds were acquired and there was such pressure on his feathers that he began to sell commercially. Vips, Whiting Farms was born and to this day the company is considered one of the best in the world!
