Shimano

In February 1921, 26-year-old Shozaburo Shimano founded the Shimano Iron Works company in Higashi Minato, Sakai City. He had 40sqm and a rent of 5 yen a month. He had already decided that the only thing he would produce was freewheels, this because freewheels were the part of a bicycle that required the most technology and know-how! In 1958 Shozaburo passes away and his son Shozo Shimano takes over as president of the company, 12 years later, in 1970 Shimano launches its fishing division.
