The Westin W3 Cat Stick 3rd is a short, two-piece catfish rod developed for active boat fishing with artificial lures, as well as clonking and drifting with worm and baitfish rigs. It is designed for vertical fishing from kayaks and belly boats, and its Torayca® high-performance carbon blank is suitable for battling very large fish. The rod supports both baitcasting and appropriately sized fixed-spool reels, with the ideal match being a size 300 baitcaster or a 5000-size or larger fixed-spool reel. The lightweight, sensitive XH blank delivers excellent casting performance with artificial lures weighing 50–160g. When vertical fishing with jigheads and vertical systems up to 180g, it provides precise lure presentation. Under heavy load, the blank transitions into a parabolic curve and retains substantial power reserves during the fight, including when targeting trophy-sized catfish. Its two-piece construction also makes transport easy and convenient.
