Umpqua Spawning Mantis Tan / Orange

Umpqua Fly Spawning Mantis is a proven shrimp imitation, developed by signature tyer Bob Veverka for technical saltwater fly fishing. With its lifelike profile, subtle movement and balanced weight, it is well suited for shallow flats, skerries and coastal fishing where fish often key in on shrimp and small crustaceans.

The Tan / Orange colour combination gives a natural shrimp look with a clear trigger point, which works well in a wide range of water colours and light conditions. The fly is tied on a strong saltwater hook that handles hard takes from sea trout, bonefish and other powerful predators without opening up.

Spawning Mantis can be stripped fast or slow, with long pulls or short twitches, and still keeps fishing thanks to its mobile materials. Choose size 2 for larger prey profiles or windy days, and sizes 4 and 6 when the fish are selective or feeding on smaller shrimp.
