This Skwala stonefly nymph is built for the early-season hatch when water is cold, weather is mixed and trout feed deep. The tungsten bead gets the fly down quickly in fast runs and narrow feeding lanes, ideal from late winter into early spring. Its size sits right in the natural Skwala range, so it works well when fish are selective and ignoring bulkier stone patterns.
The body uses buggy dubbing with a muted, realistic colour that matches the hatch rather than shouting in clear water. Soft Sili-Legs add lifelike movement with very little current, which helps on slower seams and pocket water. It fishes well on a nymph rig under an indicator, as the point fly in a two-fly setup, or tight-lined through heavier riffles when trout hug the bottom.
