Summary

Realistic crab imitation for shallow, spooky bonefish. Lands softly, rides hook up and convinces fish that see a lot of flies.

Productinformation

Umpqua Fly Simple Crab McGovney is a highly effective crab imitation developed for targeting wary bonefish in shallow, clear water. Designed by Signature Tyer Michael McGovney, this pattern was created after extensive time on the flats where standard bonefish flies and heavy permit crabs were spooking fish.

The compact profile and carefully chosen materials make the fly land softly, greatly reducing the chance of spooking large, nervous fish in skinny water. It rides hook up to minimise snagging on turtle grass, coral and other structure, and when wet it closely mimics the natural look and behaviour of a small crab.

The body material traps small air bubbles, adding subtle life and realism as the fly settles and moves on the bottom. Fished slowly, or even left stationary once a fish has seen it, the Simple Crab triggers strong takes from fish that are accustomed to inspecting flies before committing.

Available in proven sizes and a natural tan colour, this fly is a strong choice for bonefish and other flats species wherever crustaceans are on the menu.
