Rio Elite Scandi Outbound Short

RIO Elite Scandi OutBound Short is an integrated Scandi-style shooting head that offers effortless casting, superb line control and clean presentation at distance. The shooting head is seamlessly fused to the correctly sized shooting line, removing bulky loop-to-loop connections and allowing it to glide smoothly through the rod guides for a more efficient cast.

The compact Scandi head is designed to load a Spey rod quickly and efficiently, generating tight, stable loops that unroll with minimal effort. Its refined weight distribution turns over salmon and sea trout flies with accuracy, making it ideal when you need both distance and delicate presentation. Available as a floating line, it covers the majority of summer salmon and sea trout fishing, especially in lower water where small to medium flies and precise placement are crucial.

The "Short" version features a shorter head length, optimised for switch rods and double-handed rods under 13 feet. This makes it exceptionally practical on smaller rivers, or whenever you are forced to cast in tight spots with limited back space, yet still need a line that picks up and shoots cleanly with excellent loop control.

For 2026, this best-selling UK salmon line is upgraded with an integrated Elite Metered Shooting Line that changes colour every 10 feet. This helps you judge and repeat casting distance, manage your running line more accurately, and maintain consistent performance across sessions. There is also an alternative high-viz yellow head option for anglers who prefer to clearly see their loops in the air, as well as for instructors and photographers.

These lines are not intended for use with added sink tips, but they work extremely well with floating, intermediate and sinking RIO VersiLeaders when extra depth or different presentation angles are required. Use RIO Medium VersiLeaders with Scandi line ratings #8 and below, and RIO Heavy VersiLeaders with ratings #9 and above to fine-tune your depth control.
